Terms of Service

1. Service

Olfacta is a fragrance discovery platform offering a personality-based fragrance identity quiz, paid one-time readings ("The Edit" and "The Expanded Edit"), and an annual membership ("The Archive").

These terms cover the Olfacta website and the OLFACTA mobile app. The quiz, your reading, the catalogue and the tools work the same way in both. Purchases are not available inside the app.

You must be at least 16 to use Olfacta, and at least 18 (or the age of majority where you live) to make a purchase. The service is not directed at children.

2. Pricing

The Edit: €5.99 one-time. The Expanded Edit: €9.99 one-time. The Archive: €19.99/year (founding rate for the first 100 members; €24.99/year thereafter), auto-renewing annually. Prices include VAT where applicable.

3. Cancellation

The Archive subscribers can cancel anytime; access continues until the end of the paid year. The Edit and The Expanded Edit are one-time purchases and cannot be refunded after delivery (digital content consumed).

4. No refunds on completed purchases

The Edit and The Expanded Edit are one-time digital purchases. By completing checkout, you receive immediate access to your reading and waive the 14-day right of withdrawal under applicable consumer law. All sales on these are final.

The Archive subscriptions can be cancelled anytime through your account or by emailing hello@olfacta.app. Access continues until the end of the current paid year. We do not issue partial-period refunds.

5. Affiliate links

Olfacta does not currently earn commission on fragrance purchases — there are no affiliate or partner links at this time. If we add them later, we will update this section and publish a separate Affiliate Disclosure before any commission-tracking link is enabled.

6. User content

If you write Stories or post Reactions, you grant us a non-exclusive license to display them. We may remove content that violates community standards or applicable law.

Your comments, reactions, and public handle are visible to other users. You are responsible for what you post, and you must not post anything unlawful, hateful, harassing, infringing, or that impersonates someone else. Handles are filtered for offensive terms, and we may rename or remove a handle that is offensive, misleading, or impersonates another person. To report content, email hello@olfacta.app; we review reports and remove content that breaches these terms or the law.

7. Disclaimer

Fragrance recommendations are editorial opinions, not guarantees. Olfacta is not responsible for purchase decisions made based on our content. We do not guarantee uninterrupted service.

Fragrance is personal: the same scent can smell different on different skin and change through the day. Our recommendations are guidance, not a guarantee of how a fragrance will smell or perform on you. Always sample before you buy.

Fragrances can contain ingredients that cause allergic reactions or skin sensitivity. Nothing on Olfacta is medical advice. Before wearing a new fragrance, check the product's own ingredient and allergen information, and consider testing a small amount on your skin first. If you have a reaction, stop using it and seek medical advice if needed.

8. Illustrations

The note illustrations on Olfacta are for illustration only. They are not botanical records, not photographs of raw materials, and they do not describe what any perfume contains.

A note name in our catalogue can also refer to a synthetic material rather than the plant it is named after, and the illustration beside it may show the plant that gives the note its name rather than the substance a perfumer actually uses. Treat the drawings as editorial imagery only.

9. Layering Lab

The Layering Lab gives a predicted compatibility score for combining two fragrances. It models the patterns perfumers use, not a chemistry measurement, and can be wrong. Test any combination on a small area of skin first and stop if irritation occurs. Olfacta is not responsible for skin reactions, allergic responses, damage to fragrances, clothing or property, or any other outcome of layering. Use the Lab at your own risk.

10. Readings and free features

Some features are available without payment, including the free identity reveal, the price flex (a lighter or more luxurious match), and "similar but" suggestions. These free features may surface individual fragrances that also appear within a paid reading (The Edit or The Expanded Edit). This is expected. A paid reading is sold as a complete, curated set of picks together with the full dossier, the reasoning behind each match, and the wardrobe tools, and not as a secret or exclusive list of fragrance names withheld from every free part of the service. The same fragrance may legitimately appear in many different readings and across different users, and we make no claim of exclusivity over any individual recommendation.

Your recommendations are generated from your quiz answers and your activity on the site (such as the fragrances you like and add to your collection), matched against the documented notes and families of each fragrance. They are not a chemical or skin analysis.

A “find their scent” gift reading belongs to the person it was made for. When you create one for someone else, their answers and results stay separate from your own profile and never influence your recommendations.

11. Governing law

Olfacta is operated by an individual established in Spain, and these terms are governed by the law there. Nothing in them limits the mandatory consumer rights you have under the law of the country where you live, and if you are a consumer in the European Union you may bring proceedings before the courts of your own country.

12. The app, and the App Store

This agreement is between you and Olfacta only, not with Apple. Apple is not responsible for the app or its content. Your licence to use the app is a personal, non-transferable licence to run it on any Apple-branded device that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules of the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions.

Support and maintenance of the app are our responsibility, not Apple's: write to hello@olfacta.app and we answer. If the app ever fails to conform to a warranty that applies to it, you may tell Apple, and Apple will refund what you paid for the app, which today is nothing because the app is free to download. Beyond that refund, Apple has no warranty obligation whatsoever. Any claim about the app itself, including product liability, a failure to meet a legal requirement, or a consumer protection claim, is ours to answer, and so is any claim that the app infringes someone else's intellectual property.

By using the app you confirm that you are not located in a country subject to a United States embargo or designated as supporting terrorism, and that you are not on any United States list of prohibited or restricted parties. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you.

Purchases are not available inside the app. If in-app purchases are added later, Apple is the seller for those, and its refund and billing rules apply to them.

13. Independence, trademarks, and paid placements

Olfacta is editorially independent. The fragrance brands and houses referenced on the site do not direct, control, or endorse our recommendations, reviews, or rankings, and we are not an official channel of any brand. All brand names, product names, and trademarks are the property of their respective owners and are used for identification, reference, and commentary only. Product images are provided under licence from our data provider; rights in the underlying products and packaging remain with their owners.

Some placements are paid. Sponsored banners, sponsored comparisons, and similar promotional content are commercial arrangements and are labelled as sponsored. Where we use affiliate links that earn Olfacta a commission, we disclose this. Paid placements and commissions never change our editorial recommendations.
