keeping your bottles

light, heat, and the bathroom shelf

what wears a perfume out?

light, heat and air. over time, they change the smell in the bottle.

where would you keep it?

tap a spot.

close it after you spray.

every spray lets a little air into the bottle, and air slowly changes the scent. put the cap back on. a spray protects the perfume better than an open bottle.

the top goes first.

light top notes, like citrus, are the first to change as a perfume ages.

how to tell it has turned.

a sour, almost vinegary smell in the first spray is the usual sign. the colour can darken too, but a change of colour on its own doesn't always mean it has gone off: trust your nose.

kept well, it can last years.

an opened bottle kept away from light and heat can keep its smell for several years. how long depends on the formula and how you store it.
